We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our Business Development and Marketing Team on a 12 month parental-leave cover contract. The role can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney, and will work with our national Property group who won Lawyers Weekly's 'Property Team of the Year' for 2019.

Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager, this role is responsible for the development and management of the property group's BD & Marketing strategic plan, and the tactical profiling and marketing activities that arise from that plan. There is also a key account management focus in support of the group's key clients within CBP's broader key client program, as well as responsibility for preparation of tenders and pitches.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and manage overarching BD & marketing strategic plan for assigned practice group(s).
  • Act as main contact for Property to assist relevant partners and legal staff progress strategic and tactical activities within the plan, according to required criteria (relevance, quality, frequency, timeliness, measured and reported results)
  • Act as liaison point between Heads of Group/Deputy Heads of Group (HOG)/ other practice group partners and broader marketing team/resources.
  • Act as BD 'coach' for relevant HOG and partners/senior lawyers within Property.
  • Special projects work around particular focus areas: pricing, product/services development, competitor analysis and other relevant areas.
  • Client relationship program - management:
  • Work with Property partners to actively manage key clients for the practice, including conducting client feedback meetings.
  • Work with CRM & BD teams to progress key strategies and activities to support CRM program, particularly around improvement and use of InterAction across the Property group.
  • BD & marketing - tactical activities:
  • Proposals and pitches: co-ordinate the development of effective capability statements/proposal documents and management of broader proposal strategy and process.
  • Communications: work with Communications team to assist with input into media campaigns; directory listings; award submissions; online and social media activities; and other relevant comms activities and materials.
  • Branding and profiling: identify tactical go-to-market campaigns that provide profiling for the Property group, in alignment with broader firm-level profiling and brand initiatives.
  • Events: work with events team to plan and manage relevant events for Property, in line with overall strategic plan. This will include the Property Think Tank series and other client and market focused events.


  • Provide support on practice group Marketing & BD budget co-ordination.
  • Ad hoc assistance with BD & marketing related activities and projects.

Essential Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Sound understanding of professional services firm (PSF) marketing theory and related concepts/structures/activities
  • Proven experience in working with business areas and practice groups to progress BD, marketing and CRM-specific strategies and activities
  • Proven ability to innovate and apply new ideas to commercial reality
  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, business or communications
  • Excellent customer service and client-centric work ethic
  • Sound knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Interaction and related IT platforms
  • A team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
