This is a fantastic opportunity to join an enviable, tier-one law firm. Working with the Global Head of Media Relations, you will be instrumental in driving and executing the firms’ global PR and media strategy across Australia.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the firm's media relations strategy by assisting in the development and implementation of comprehensive plans for external communications.
  • Develop and build relationships with key national, business and legal press.
  • Handle media enquiries for the practices and act as a spokesperson for the firm.
  • Proactively pursue all opportunities to maximise coverage by positioning partners as commentators on relevant issues.
  • Draft and issue press announcements and organise media briefings for the practices.
  • Work with BD to help develop thought leadership programmes to build reputation in key industries.
  • Coach partners to become more effective communicators and foster relationships between partners and key members of the press.
  • Keep partners abreast of current situations with regards to the media.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with the BD managers to ensure media relations activity is fully aligned to BD strategy
  • Work closely with the Global Head of Media Relations and the global PR team to ensure all activities are globally consistent.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate coverage.
  • Support execution of awards programme.
  • Update and maintain key information systems.
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor degree
  • 4+ years' experience of external communications within a professional services firm, corporate or consultancy
  • Knowledge of the financial and business media and ideally the legal press
  • Experience of working in an international organisation
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Authoritative and analytical, ability to command senior stakeholder respect
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy
  • Ability to interact at all levels within an organisation
  • Creative and lateral thinker, ability to overcome obstacles
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to differing demands
  • Strong decision making ability, demonstrating initiative and ability to be proactive
  • Ability to maintain and sustain relationships and deal effectively with journalists
